WHS President, Dr Chris Pond tells the story of James Hilton, who came to Walthamstow as a child when his father was appointed from the North as Headmaster of the new Chapel End school. He attended Maynard Rd School and then the Monoux Grammar School (1909-15). Vestiges of Walthamstow remain in his novels and remarkable childhood diary.
